Among the top 20 retailers worldwide and the number one retailer in Germany is EDEKA who have over 10,000 stores in 5 countries. Other than their namesake banner EDEKA, they also own and operate NETTO , MARTKAUF and what used to be AVA now under the Martkauf banner to name just a few. Owned by MACRO GROUP in Austria is the 13 store ETSAN chain in that country. A growing company involved in several areas of retailing, wholesaling and manufacturing, they also have WILD DRAGON energy drink among their holdings. Located in the U.S. states of California, Arizona and Nevada are the FRESH & EASY chain of stores launched by U.K. giant TESCO as their entrance into North America. The stores are smaller markets as opposed to larger more traditional supermarkets and that brings the added advantage that rapid expansion of the banner is possible and predicted. In 5 regions of Italy are stores owned by GRUPPO GABRIELLI operating under the banners Tigre, Maxi Tigre and Dis Discount. In Northern Pennsylvania in the U.S. is the 9 store GERRITY'S chain that was started in 1895 with a small meat shop owned by William Gerrity and even though ownership of the business changed to the Fasula family in the late 1960's, the name Gerrity's has endured through time. Privately owned GIANT EAGLE is an award winning business with 158 corporate and 65 independent stores serving Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland.
