Greer's is a regional chain of 35+ stores in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi operating under the " Food Tiger " name in what are more traditional format supermarkets. ( Photos courtesy of Adam Topolnicki from Greers. )

Based in Hong Kong is the conglomerate Hutchison-Whampoa that operate the Park N Shop chain of stores. In China they were one of the first western style retailers permitted to operate there. Another global top 20 retailer is the French company Group Des Mousquetaires also known as Intermarche and / or ITM Enterprises. Portugal based Jeronimo Martins is one of the few interests that Ahold have not divested in recent years. They have maintained their partnership and 49% interest in the successful company who has stores in several other countries including Biedronka in Poland. With a wide variety of store types and several banners, the La Fragua company has stores in Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras. Marks & Spencer is a well known name in the retail business. Their only North American operations is the U.S. chain Kings Supermarkets in New Jersey and New York. Another top 10 global retailer by sales is Germany's Metro Group who are active in many areas of retailing and are have always been an innovator in technology. Visit their initiative at the Future Store link where you can see what is to come in our business and what they already have implemented...very good site / information. In Greece, Metro Supermarkets has stores throughout the country and are not affiliated with the Metro Group of Germany. With several different banners, they operate 38 supermarkets and 25 Cash & Carry outlets. ( Photos courtesy of the Metro Supermarkets website. )

Now the fourth largest supermarket chain in the U.K., Morrisons has intensively been rebranding former Safeway stores at an average of 4 stores per month. By the end of 2005 almost all of their 400+ chain will carry the Morrisons fascia. ( Photos from the internet. )

A well recognized name in supermarkets are the franchises of Piggly Wiggly in the U.S. This group of stores shown are from the Piggly Wiggly Carolina Company in Georgia and South Carolina and are just a few of their 100+ locations. { See the Retailer Links pages for other franchises }. One of Russia's largest supermarket chains is Pyaterochka who have over 230 corporate stores in Moscow and St. Petersburg with an additional 200+ franchise stores around the country. Located exclusively on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada is the privately owned 9 store chain of Quality Foods. As you can see from these photos, a company doesn't have to be massive to be able to have great looking stores. ( Photos courtesy of Rob MacKay from Quality Foods. )

Another retailer from Russia is the country's largest overall called Ramstore which is run by the Ramenka Company. In turn they are partners with KOC Holdings of Turkey who own the Migros / Ramstore operations there as well. Visually their stores have an impressive look to them. ( Photos from the internet. )

Yet another German retail giant is the Rewe Group who are the world's largest retailer cooperative operating a variety of banners throughout Europe and beyond.
