Metro Inc. ( formerly Metro Richelieu ):

◊ Operating in Quebec and Ontario only they now have a 16% share of the Canadian market and are ranked # 2 in both provinces behind Loblaws. The addition of the 236 stores and 5 distribution centres will almost double their size and bring them close to beating out Sobeys as the number 2 food retailer in Canada.

◊ In July 2005 they purchased the Canadian operations of the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company ( A&P ) in a deal worth $ 1.7 Billion Canadian.
